Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will release «Burned» on 29 January 2027, their first album in six years. Lead single «Fever of the Mind» reconnects with the urgency that has long defined Alec Ounsworth’s project.

A record shaped by loss without remaining inside it

Alec Ounsworth describes the songs on «Burned» as emerging from a difficult period involving bereavement and the end of a relationship. That history is relevant, but it would be reductive to treat the album simply as a diary of sadness. He presents the ten tracks as a movement from confusion towards a renewed willingness to embrace life. «Fever of the Mind» establishes that tension: its restless synthesiser layers push forward while the lyrics consider emotional patterns inherited across generations.

There is another connection to the band’s history. During 2025, Ounsworth revisited the self-titled debut on its twentieth-anniversary tour and began thinking about how the new songs would function onstage. Produced with Nick Krill and mixed by Dave and Mike Fridmann, «Burned» will be released on the independent CYHSY label via Secretly Distribution on 29 January 2027.

The seventh studio album contains ten songs emerging from a difficult personal period. Ounsworth describes grief and the end of a relationship as starting points, not destinations: he wanted the record to move from loss towards the possibility of hope.

Beyond a simple comeback narrative

Six years between albums might invite a straightforward comeback headline, yet «Burned» is better understood as a continuation of a long-running artistic practice. Ounsworth returned to the songs that first connected him to an audience during the debut album’s anniversary tour. That experience gave him an unusually direct reminder of what his voice and arrangements can do in a room. The new record draws on that live energy while addressing personal loss. What matters is the tension between the urgency of its sound and its refusal to offer an easy resolution to the questions raised by its lyrics.

«Fever of the Mind» layers synth riffs around lyrics addressing alienation and emotional inheritance. Ounsworth describes it as the track that set the thematic and musical direction. One single cannot represent a whole album, but it gives the release a clear opening statement.

Listen and dates

The songs began in Ounsworth’s home studio and were produced with Nick Krill, with Dave and Mike Fridmann involved in mixing. The announcement follows the 2025 anniversary tour for the self-titled debut. The album will be issued on the CYHSY label via Secretly Distribution.
