Before the stadiums, Estopa were a cassette passed from hand to hand. Nearly three decades later, brothers David and José Muñoz are revisiting their 1997 demo to release songs that never made it onto their official albums. La Maketa, a double album due November 20, 2026, will be followed by four stadium shows in 2027.

The demo that spread before social media

In 1997, the brothers recorded more than 30 songs, some at home and others in a studio funded by a songwriting contest prize. Copies circulated among friends long before a record deal. Twelve tracks became their 1999 debut Estopa, while others fed into Destrangis (2001).

The story goes beyond nostalgia: the band is giving overlooked songs their first official release while preserving the recordings that launched their career.

What’s on the two discs?

Disc one contains ten previously unreleased recordings: seven songs from the original demo never issued on an official album, plus three compositions from that era that were never recorded at the time. Estopa produced the new versions with musicians performing together on the rooftop of Barcelona’s Torre Melina hotel. Each track has an accompanying studio video.

Disc two features the original 1997 recordings, sourced from a master tape rediscovered at their parents’ home, rather than the lower-quality copies that have circulated for years.

“Bicho raro” arrives October 16

The first single, “Bicho raro”, is scheduled for October 16 with a video. According to the press release, some of its lines later resurfaced in “Tragicomedia” and “Vino tinto”.

Four stadium dates and ticket presale

The Gira de La MKT will visit four stadiums between June and July 2027. Fans who preorder a physical edition from October 18 are set to receive a personal presale code on November 16; general ticket sales are scheduled for November 17. Check Estopa’s official website for cities, venues and conditions.

From cassette copies to stadium crowds

The compelling part of La Maketa is the distance between those two worlds: music circulating among friends in 1997 and a stadium tour in 2027. Instead of treating their early material as a footnote, Estopa are making it the centrepiece of their next chapter.
