Philadelphia-based Star Moles, the musical project of Emily Moales, has signed to Dead Oceans and shared “Born Again”, a new single with a music video shot entirely in South Philadelphia and directed by Lucky Marvel.
The label will give Highway to Hell its first vinyl release on December 4. Produced by Kevin Basko, the record blends indie rock, folk and bedroom pop with Moales’s sharp everyday observations and melodic instincts.
A new chapter for Star Moles
“Born Again” reunites Moales with Basko, who recorded and mixed the song at his Historic New Jersey studio. Moales describes the track as an attempt to turn real frustration into a musical image rather than simply narrating what happened.
The album also features contributions from guitarist Sam Sullivan and drummer Jem Seidel. After years of independently releasing music, Moales now steps into a wider spotlight with Dead Oceans while retaining her distinctive creative voice.
Star Moles will play a London headline show at Next Door Records 2 on November 4, ahead of a scheduled Pitchfork London appearance.
