Sacred Bones Records has announced new editions of two landmark Psychic Ills albums: Dins (2006) and Inner Journey Out (2016). Both will return on December 4, 2026 in new vinyl variants marking their 20th and 10th anniversaries.

The pairing captures two very different stages in the New York band’s evolution. Their debut embraced experimental psychedelia, hypnotic rhythms and electronics. A decade later, Inner Journey Out found them moving toward more spacious songwriting informed by folk, country and gospel.

Two sides of psychedelia

For Dins, the band worked to translate its live intensity into a studio recording. Elizabeth Hart recalls recording the entire album twice while experimenting with the equipment available to them. Tracks such as “East” and “I Knew My Name” reflect that exploratory period.

Produced by Thom Monahan, Inner Journey Out became Psychic Ills’ fifth and final album. Hart says the band spent three years making it, drawing inspiration from films, records and other art forms. Guitars, pedal steel, keys and occasional horns helped shape its wide-open sound.

The legacy of Tres Warren

Psychic Ills began in 2003 with Tres Warren and Tom Gluibizzi. Elizabeth Hart later joined and remained, alongside Warren, at the heart of the group. The band came to an end following Warren’s death in March 2020; the surviving members released the tribute Songs for Tres in 2021.

The Dins and Inner Journey Out reissues will be available in limited and exclusive vinyl variants. Preorders are open via the official anniversary collection.
