Some album titles read like a manifesto. With Alegría, Anni B Sweet gives hers a deeply personal meaning. Her fifth record, released by Subterfuge, brings together twelve songs influenced by psychedelic pop and Brazilian music. Rather than pretending that difficult experiences disappear, the album explores the possibility of finding joy after them.

Finding the desire to write again

In the statement accompanying the album, the Málaga-born songwriter describes a period of uncertainty followed by a move to Aranjuez. Listening to Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso and Santiago Auserón helped her reconnect with music. The songs combine clear melodies, layered harmonies and a surrealist sensibility that makes room for contradictory feelings.
