What happens when an album begins without a predetermined shape? Catalan electronic duo b1n0 have made that question the driving force behind «Gargot», their third record, released on 23 October 2026 through Foehn Records. Emili Bosch and Malcus Codolà assembled its eleven tracks from open-ended sessions with a group of collaborators.

The Catalan word gargot means a scribble, a mark made before its final form is known. It is an apt title for music that starts with interaction instead of a completed composition. The process, in other words, is not hidden behind the finished songs: it is the substance of the record.

The difference between a guest appearance and a shared experiment

On most contemporary albums, a featured artist is invited to add something to a track that already exists. «Gargot» reverses that relationship. Emili Bosch and Malcus Codolà began with encounters: musicians entered open-ended sessions with no prewritten structure, and the duo later shaped the resulting material into songs. The collaborators were therefore part of the composition itself rather than decorative additions to completed music.

That distinction is central to the idea of a scribble. A line begins before its destination becomes apparent; a sound can develop in exactly the same way when nobody knows what the next musician will play. The band’s long-standing interest in imperfection is not an excuse for carelessness, but a way of making surprise visible in the final work.

Three first listens and a stage show built for the album

«Si no me quieres», «Cataclisme» and «Nit» were released ahead of the record. Writer Martí Sales provides text and voice on «Cataclisme», while Meritxell Neddermann participates in «Nit». The full list of collaborators also includes Clara Peya, Mar Pujol, Xavier Marín from Oso Leone and Vernat. For the live show, Playmodes artist Eduard Frigola has developed a visual system using lights, a screen and lasers that draw symbols in real time. Neddermann joins the duo on stage for this cycle.

The electronics are only one half of what b1n0 are building; the other half is an approach to collaboration that treats light, movement and performance as active parts of the same work. The full album is available to listen to on Bandcamp.

Collaboration as composition

Clara Peya, Martí Sales, Meritxell Neddermann, Mar Pujol, Xavier Marín of Oso Leone and Vernat joined the duo in sessions that generated the album’s material. Previous b1n0 releases featured artists such as Ferran Palau, Marina Herlop and Tarta Relena, but here the collaborative method becomes the project’s organising idea.

Early singles including «Si no me quieres», «Cataclisme» featuring Martí Sales and «Nit» with Meritxell Neddermann suggested a record that moves between experimental pop, electronic production and intuitive performance. The shared foundation is a willingness to let a piece discover its direction during the act of making it.

A visual language for the stage

b1n0 are also bringing the concept into a specially designed audiovisual live show. Created with Eduard Frigola of the Playmodes collective, the setup combines moving lights, projections and laser drawings generated in real time. Neddermann joins the duo’s live performance for the first time.

«Gargot» makes a persuasive case for treating imperfection not as an obstacle to the final product, but as a creative method. The sketch becomes the destination.
