Canarian singer Marilia Monzón releases «Lumbre» today, 30 October 2026, via Esmerarte: a second album shaped by her relationship with Mexico and the possibility of finding a sense of home far from where she was born. Available digitally and physically, the record contains twelve tracks: seven principal songs and five additional recordings including collaborations, remixes and alternative performances. It is now a released album, rather than a forthcoming one.

Three years after «Prenderé una velita» (2023), Monzón draws on travels, encounters and songs that developed during periods spent between Mexico and Spain. The new record is interested in what happens when roots stop meaning one fixed location and begin to include the people and places that have welcomed us elsewhere.

The warmth of «Lumbre»: where home begins again

Monzón first heard the word lumbre from her grandmother and encountered it again in Mexico. Fire and the warmth of home therefore became the record’s guiding images. Its release just before the Day of the Dead gives these ideas an added cultural resonance, but the stronger connection to Mexico is evident in the musicians and producers who helped make the songs.

«De mi sufrir»: distance as a form of gratitude

The album’s focus track, «De mi sufrir», arrives with a music video exploring the record’s visual world. Monzón has explained that it grew from two years of living between Mexico and Spain. Rather than simply describing homesickness, the song turns separation into gratitude for the relationships and experiences that made a once-unfamiliar country feel like somewhere she belongs.

That distinction is central to «Lumbre». The record’s concept does not treat identity as something that must remain untouched. Instead, songs can become a meeting place where traditions, personal memories and new musical collaborators shape a changing sense of self.

Mexican collaborators: 3KMKZ, Denise Gutiérrez and El Búho

Mexican production collective 3KMKZ helped shape much of the album. Denise Gutiérrez features on an additional version of «Por qué será», while producer El Búho reworks «Acuérdate de mí». These are substantial creative contributions, not merely references to Mexico in the artwork or promotional story.

Further bonus recordings include a demo of the traditional Mexican song «La Llorona», an acoustic version of «Pobre de ti» and a live performance of «Pecado de inocentes». It is important to distinguish these alternate treatments from the seven songs forming the album’s main sequence.

«Lumbre»: complete twelve-track list

The first seven tracks make up the central song cycle, while five further recordings offer other performances, voices and production approaches.

  1. Agua bendita
  2. Por qué será
  3. Acuérdate de mí
  4. Pobre de ti
  5. Hay un fuego
  6. De mi sufrir
  7. Pecado de inocentes
  8. Por qué será (feat. Denise Gutiérrez)
  9. Acuérdate de mí (El Búho Remix)
  10. La Llorona (Demo)
  11. Pobre de ti (Acoustic)
  12. Pecado de inocentes (Live)

The format encourages two related ways of listening: the original seven-song journey and the alternative interpretations that expand its emotional and musical possibilities.

Record signings and live dates

Monzón will sign copies and perform a few songs on 31 October at 2 pm at Marilians in Madrid, and on 19 November at 8 pm at El Genio Equivocado, la botiga, in Barcelona. A performance at the Festival Castes in Vilagarcía de Arousa on 7 November is also scheduled.

According to the album’s official press announcement, a Madrid presentation is planned for 27 January 2027 at Sala Siroco as part of Inverfest; listeners should check the festival’s official schedule for ticketing and any updates. The singer also participates in BATEA, a talent-development initiative from Esmerarte and Fundación Paideia Galiza.

Belonging to more than one place

Rather than simply borrowing from Mexican traditional music, «Lumbre» explores what happens when a singer’s experiences and creative relationships expand her understanding of home. Its main tracks and alternate versions provide different perspectives on that journey. Now that the album is out, listeners can explore the music itself rather than relying solely on its announced concept.
