A song does not need to be long to create a sense of place. Swedish artist waterbaby released «Creek» on 29 October 2026, a short standalone single written and recorded in Stockholm with longtime collaborator Marcus White. Issued by Sub Pop, it comes only months after her debut album «Memory Be a Blade» and offers a more intimate glimpse of her musical world.

A small song with a distinct atmosphere

At under two minutes, «Creek» brings acoustic guitar and subtle flute colours into a delicate folk setting. Its scale is part of the appeal. Rather than requiring every new track to announce a reinvention, waterbaby allows the arrangement to remain light, leaving room for the voice and atmosphere to do the work. The title itself evokes a small stream, a fitting image for a composition that moves gently without standing still.

The connection to Marcus White matters too. Their established working relationship allows musical ideas to develop through detail and shared listening. The new song is explicitly presented as a standalone release: no subsequent album has been formally announced alongside it, and calling it the lead single of a future LP would be inaccurate.

After «Memory Be a Blade»

Released in March, «Memory Be a Blade» introduced waterbaby’s first full-length statement after earlier singles and an EP. Her music draws from alternative pop, understated R&B and intimate songwriting, with arrangements that can sound both improvised and carefully considered. «Creek» does not abandon that sensibility; it approaches it from a shorter, more acoustic angle.

Over the summer, waterbaby performed «Minnie» and «Minnie Too» in a COLORS session and filmed a series of «Live in the Studio» performances. These recordings reveal how her songs can retain their emotional force in small, close-up settings without depending on large-scale production.

Seven European dates in November

The new single arrives before a short tour beginning in Stockholm on 2 November, followed by Gothenburg (4), Malmö (5), Linköping (6), Luleå (7), Brussels (12) and Geneva (19). No Spanish stop appears in the announced itinerary.

Amid release campaigns that compete for constant attention, «Creek» offers a different proposition: spend a moment with a song that is modest in scale but rich in atmosphere.
